Some people think that using animals for medical research is a great idea. Others think that it’s cruel, and one of the worst things that you could ever do. The good news for those who worry about the plight of animals is that there are fewer animals being used in medical research today than there were in the past.
New technology is helping people find other ways to test products and procedures. With that being the case, more animals are spared the pain that they went through just a few short years ago. When animals are used for medical research, though, ethics committees are usually very involved so that there is little danger to the animals and they are treated as ethically and humanely as possible.
Even treatments that might be uncomfortable can be done in a relatively humane way, and that’s what ethics committees are for. It’s really the only way that most people are comfortable with any kind of research on animals.
