Why does Gold sometimes Green your Skin?

Have you ever had engagement rings or necklaces that makes your skin green?  You probably wondered what made that happen. The problem lies with your dirty skin… no not really — it’s a reaction to the metal that can happen to anyone who wears inexpensive jewelry. For some people it happens faster than others though, because our bodies are all unique.

Truth be told expensive jewelry can have the same effect~ reason being it’s not one hundred percent pure~ regardless of gold or silver content. Platinum hardly ever reacts with skin so there should be no concern if you own platinum jewelry. If you have gold jewelry and want to stop it from turning your skin green make sure that you don’t have gold plated or gold rinsed jewelry – the base metal might be cheap and then covered with gold that will wear off. For jewelry made from solid gold choosing a higher karat only can help reduce the marks that are left on your skin.
Jewelry made from copper will also turn your skin green and its hard to stop it.

Avoid wearing jewelry when you’re sweating a lot because that can speed up the reaction between your skin and the metal you might also ask your jeweler if they can add a layer of protective coating – to keep your skin from reacting. If you can find something to keep the reaction to a minimum you can wear inexpensive jewelry whenever you want. Just remember~ the green discoloration isn’t harmful. It’s a chemical skin reaction and not an allergy. Allergies will turn your skin red plus it could also make your skin feel itchy and inflamed. It’s not anything like green skin. If you do get an allergy to a piece of jewelry stop wearing that right away. Green skin shouldnt scare you ore keep you from wearing your favorite pieces you may just have to clean your skin more so you won’t look bad.

All in all coating your jewelry is probably the answer.
